Founded in Turin in 1895 by Luigi Lavazza, Lavazza is a globally recognised coffee brand with a rich Italian history. Based right here in Melbourne, the Australian branch of Lavazza has been operating for over 10 years delivering their beans to cafes and restaurants country-wide. Today the company operates with 100 staff and is growing with their recent acquisition of The Blue Pod Coffee Co.

About the project

Recognised by their bold logo of white text on a rich blue background, Lavazza is an iconic Italian borne coffee brand. The story behind the brand is genuine and unique – they are a passionate team and dedicated to that perfect cup of coffee – which we totally respect here at SGD!

When Lavazza approached us to help them bring their training site to life we were pumped. This was a first for Lavazza, and it was an exciting project to take on in terms of encouraging our team to think outside the box and implement some new features. We worked closely to provide Lavazza with a streamlined method of training baristas Australia-wide ensuring the consistency of Lavazza’s coffee as well as encouraging staff support. Such a great initiative!

The brief:

  • Provide a professional and engaging website delivering training course content to Baristas, Restaurateurs and Coffee shop owners
  • Deliver course content in video, audio and written formats
  • Publish 12 course categories with a number of sub categories
  • Provide students with individual secure accounts and a dashboard
  • Professional and modern design in-line with the existing Lavazza brand
  • Communicate with clients through automated system emails (e.g. once a subject has been completed)

The Lavazza team also required that the site be easily updated should the need to edit or add to course modules. To ensure this was possible we set them up with access to the CMS to ensure they can manage and edit the site going forward.

To answer the brief we ensured that the site was user friendly, allowing their staff to utilise their own personal logins to take them through their own guided training journey. We built the site from the ground up with customised features, themes, and functionalities incorporated throughout the process. This training site is truly unique to Lavazza and serves them well to ensure they reach their goal of waking Australia up with the perfect drop of coffee every day.
