How Visible is Your Brand in AI Search?

AI tools like ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and Perplexity are now a major part of how people research businesses. 

When someone asks “who’s the best [SERVICE] in Melbourne?”, the AI’s answer shapes their first impression.

If your brand shows up, you gain trust early. If it doesn’t, you miss the opportunity to be part of the customer journey before they even reach Google.

The challenge with checking AI visibility

AI platforms don’t show you a visibility report, and your own results are biased.

That’s because when you’re logged in to AI tools like ChatGPT, the AI already knows your brand, which means you see very different results to your customers.

When you’re checking your brand’s AI visibility it’s best to log out of check in a private window.

AI prompts to check your brand’s AI visibility

Here are a few common prompts you can use to check your brand’s AI visibility. Choose a single platform to add these into, such as ChatGPT, Google AI mode or Perplexity.

For service-based businesses:

  • Best [SERVICE] near me
  • Best [SERVICE] in [CITY]
  • Top rated [SERVICE] [CITY]
  • [SERVICE] cost in [CITY]
  • [COMPETITOR] vs [BRAND]
  • Is [BRAND] reputable for [SERVICE]
  • Reviews for [brand]

For stores selling products:

  • [PRODUCT] near me
  • Where to buy [PRODUCT]
  • Best [PRODUCT TYPE] for [USE CASE]
  • [BRAND A] vs [BRAND B]
  • most popular [BRAND] [PRODUCT TYPE]
  • [PRODUCT] free shipping

Once you’ve run these prompts for your brand, it’s best to run them 3 times so you can get an idea of how the results change and how often you show up.

Take note of what the AI engines are saying about your brand.

Does your brand appear? Is the information accurate?

Is the AI answer a strength or a weakness for your brand?

If you’re not showing up or the information isn’t accurate, then here are a few quick actions you can take:

  1. Update your website’s About page
  2. Improve product and service pages with FAQs
  3. Refresh your Google Business Profile (add photos and posts)
  4. Make sure your social profiles have accurate business information
  5. Get listings on common Australian business directories 

When you’re making changes to your website, be sure to send your changes to Google using Google Search Console.

This will make sure you’re new content gets indexed in the Google results, which is one of the places the AI engines look.
