Up until now, us web designers have put particular focus on our designs being flashy, animated, 3D looking, and to chuck a technical word in there – skeuomorphic, all in the name of wanting our viewers to go, wow! However, today and moving forward a new trend is emerging which you may have noticed particularly when Apple spruced a new look with iOS7 last month. The jump to flat design has seen many designers embrace a minimal approach creating cleaner, simpler and ultimately flatter design faces.
While not entirely aesthetic, this new look also elevates content and takes visual quality to a new level. Because the design is stripped back of textures and attention grabbing features, high-resolution, optimised images and videos become they centre of attraction – fortunately or unfortunately great for advertisers and marketers!
Either way, it looks like flat design is here to stay, at least for a little while! We have to say we love it, and it’s what inspired the concept of our own website and many we have in the pipeline! You’ve got to agree that sometimes less is always more!
