2022 Federal Budget Tax Benefits for Web Design

The world of taxation is constantly evolving, and in 2022, that evolution greatly benefits those who invest in web design. According to the changing federal tax rules, businesses that spend money on web design in 2022 can get some major deductions when filing their tax returns.

So how can these new tax regulations benefit you and your company? Let’s find out…

The Basics of Today’s Web Design Deductions

The new tax benefits for web design were only released in March 2022, but they’ve already made a big impact on how businesses are viewing their approach to technology. Which is really no surprise at all since the government has agreed to give eligible businesses a $120 deduction for every $100 spent on maintaining and improving their digital capability.

What does that mean, exactly? Well, any time a company spends $100 on digital services like designing a website, cloud computing, portable payments, cybersecurity, etc., the government will grant a $120 tax deduction. That’s it!

Why These New Tax Rules?

Over the past decade or so, we’ve seen the government make some major changes to policies (this one included) to support small and medium-sized businesses that are investing in their IT infrastructure. Why?

The reasons behind the additional 20% deduction are actually very simple. It’s all because the AU government understands that embracing the online economy is extremely important, now and in the future.

The more perks there are to investing in current web design trends, cybersecurity, and other digital needs, the more likely it is for companies to invest. And the more companies invest in digital strategies to become more productive and competitive, the stronger Australia’s online economy – and economy in general – will be.

Who Is Eligible for Digital Tax Breaks?

According to the federal government, more than 3.6 million businesses will be able to claim that additional 20% deduction. These businesses just have to have an annual turnover of less than $50 million, and the money spent has to go towards “digital adoption”.

What’s even better is that businesses spending up to $100,000 annually will be eligible for a bonus deduction. This bonus is meant to cut costs for those who invest a large chunk of change in technology – those who are “embracing the digital revolution” that AU and the entire world are experiencing.
