Setting Goals and Budgets - 3 Key Steps You Must Consider

How is your business travelling for 2016? Do you have any specific goals you’d like to reach? We set out our own goals some time ago, to ensure our team and our focus is consistent and remains on track.

Here are 3 important items you should consider before starting your project

1. Establishing goals

Here’s an idea. Write a list of 10 things your website can potentially achieve for your business. Once you have your list of 10, number them in order of importance. Then ask yourself why you need the top 3 items achieved. The answer to that question is the goal of your website project. A common example would be “a professional website that generates more enquiries and clearly explains what the business does”.

2. Budget, budget, budget

What should you pay?

If you want the full deal, you have to be willing to spend a minimum of $4,000. Most agencies will give you the option to pay a monthly fee to ensure you can get assistance whenever you need it. Consider it a subscription for 24/7 support. This might cost you $100 a month, but it is definitely worth it. Just make sure you make the most of it!

If you have a figure in mind, shop around and see what you can get included for that price. Doing your research is crucial to making your dollars stretch as far as possible.

 3. Small Budget Solutions

Don’t have the dosh to spend on a unique design and you’re happy to go with a template? A couple of good DIY template options include Squarspace and WordPress. Bare in mind though, the hosting, registry, URL, etc. is all up to you, and it can be fiddly! These sites are also very limited in what they can do, and are ultimately a cheap starter solution. Most businesses will move on from their template sites and hire a professional agency to redesign their site down the track.

Here’s our version of a budget guideline:

  • Less than $1,000 = DIY Squarspace and WIX
  • $1000 – $4,000 = Freelancer or UpWork for a competitive price
  • $4,000 – $15,000 = Small Agency which can handle everything from graphics to hosting
  • $15,000 + = Large Agency which focuses on complex designs and large projects requiring a large team.
